Awards for Bravern and Elements Too!

Bravern Phase II Courtyard

As we move into February already, we hear of two more awards for Weisman Design Group projects.  Bravern, the amazing Schnitzer-West mixed use project in Bellevue, just received the 2009 Place Maker of the Year award from the Bellevue Downtown Association. The project team included NBBJ, Callison, Skanska and PCL and our firm for all phases of the project!

To add icing to our cake,  John Su’s forward thinking Ashwood Too project received the 2009 Skyline award from the Bellevue Downtown Association.  Designed by Jim Cutler of Cutler Anderson and our firm, Ashwood Too completes Su Development’s buildout of the parcel.  The project features a southwest facing urban plaza with a major water feature, tiered sitting areas, and green screens on three sides.

New in the Office

The new year brings our firm some exciting new projects to focus our talents on!

Renton SD

We are just starting work with NAC Architecture on Renton SLC for the Renton School District. This is a new High School which combines three separate high school programs on one campus; quite a challenge.  Our relationship with NAC Architecure goes all the way back to 1980 when Mark Weisman worked with Dale Brookie, Bob Grossman and Colin Jones on 15 schools for  Spokane School District 81.  We have worked with the Renton School District over the last 15 years on a number of projects as well, and look forward to applying our talents here.

We are beginning work on Cherry Crest Elementary School for the Bellevue School District. This project is also with NAC Architecture and represents our tenth school for the Bellevue School District over the last seven years.

This week we started work on the Camas Ridge Apartment Project with Hackworth Group Architects. This multi-family housing project is being developed by the City of Camas to provide innovative housing for their low income population.  The project integrates green technology including energy and water conservation in well thought out site plan which will incorporate recreation, trails and play.

We are also pleased to be working again with Erickson McGovern Architects on Spanaway Elementary School for the Bethel School District. This project represents our sixth project for the Spanaway School District and the continuation of our long relationship with Erickson McGovern.

Carnation

We are also delighted to be working on Carnation Elementary School play upgrades for the Riverview School District, and Oak Harbor High School field upgrades for the Oak Harbor School District. Add all of the above new projects to our existing 27 schools in design and construction and it should be a rich and rewarding year.

Sunrise Village – NAIOP Retail Development of the Year

Sunrise Village

We are thrilled to find out that Sunrise Village, developed by Tarragon for Investco has just received the 2009 Northwest Chapter NAIOP Retail Development of the Year award.

Always nice to see two years of planning and detailed design rewarded!

2010 CEFPI Awards

My partners Nick and Andy are delighted that their team efforts with NAC Architecture on the design of Cavelero Middle/High School project have been rewarded. The project is under consideration for the CEFPI 2010 School Planning & Architectural Exhibition Awards.

Learning by Design 2009 Honorable Mention Award

NAC Architecture  has also received an Honorable Mention award from the Learning by Design 2009 competition for their design and implementation work on the Cavelero Mid High School facility in Lake Stevens, Washington.  This award underscores our 25 year collaboration with NAC Architecture in the design of educational facilities.
